John McCain is running solely on his military record, yet knows nothing about the new GI Bill that would provide tuition money for soldiers.

You vets were willing to die for your country; why wouldn't you be willing to pay for your own medical care?

What? Poor? Impossible! Don't you know this is the richest country in the world?

Impaler, I have to agree with you - this GI bill needs to be for those no longer active in Iraq and Afganistan. We do not need a duplicate, but we do need something for those that have served and are no longer miliatary. Especially, for those that have been released from duty due to injury.
The Dems do not have all the answers, but, we also do NOT need another 4 years of Bush Admin with McCain at the lead doing business as usual. For that alone, it's worth voting Democrat. Obama, hopefull, rather than more business as usual Clinton.

I am a vet, I have read the senate and house versions of this bill, and even I would have to get a legal opinion of the effects of this bill on the military before I blindly follow democrats throught the gates on this one. he has two months to sign on if the active duty provision of this bill will not effect readiness, and soldiers in there current missions. We cannot subvert the authority of the commanders in the field for soldiers that have a legal right to pursue education while on active duty. This could be simply fixed by making it what it was intended to be, a benifit once you leave the service. Remove the Active duty component and I think it will pass, BTW, there is already an excellent education system for those on active duty. why duplicate it?

So sayeth the Impaler!

There's other options for soldiers as McCain should well know, since he did the introduction to Odysseus in America by Jonathan Shay.

One of the first motifs pointed out by Shay in the Isthmus chapter is that returning soldiers who find themselves unable to work in the normal market find themselves highly applicable to the black market sadly enough.

Although I wonder if that is on his mind, methinks it is most likely very inevitable.
