This sounds like a dream, doesn't it?   Well, it's not.  We have a unique opportunity right now to send Karl Rove to jail, but only if we take immediate action.

All we have to do is pressure the 40 members of the House Judiciary Committee, make them hold Rove in contempt and send him to jail.  We've never had such a direct opportunity to hold Rove accountable.  No, this is not enough punishment for his years and years of crimes, but it's a huge start, and will send a very clear message to the entire Bush administration.

We put together this video to explain the issues surrounding Rove's failure to testify before Congress, and why Rove should be held in contempt and sent to jail.  Check out Send Karl Rove to Jail, and sign our petition to ensure that the HJC holds Rove in contempt.

Today at 1pm ET / 10am PT, the first episode of Meet the Bloggers will air live, and Karl Rove will be the big topic of discussion with bloggers Marcy Wheeler, Liliana Segura, Baratunde Thurston, and special guest Arianna Huffington.  The video will be featured on the show, sign the petition, forward it to friends (don't forget to Digg it), and go to meetthebloggers.org to send in your own thoughts, and join the discussion at 1pm ET.

If you can't watch live, you can always see what was discussed on the show anytime you want at meetthebloggers.org.

Topics · jail · Karl Rove · subpoena · House Judiciary Committee · meet the bloggers · send karl rove to jail · contempt of congress

"Can you imagine what a disaster of a President Kerry would have been?" So wrote somebody somewhere in this list of comments.

Has that person paid any attention to the manifold, serial disasters that have enveloped this country ever since the Bush/Cheney team took over?

The minute that Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid took impeachment off the table, I lost faith in the Democrats ability to govern honestly. Shame on them for ignoring the Constitution! We are all subject to it with no free passes. Bush and his cronies operate fearlessly mocking the intent of the founding fathers. How can you use "Executive privilege" to mask criminality? And they get away with it!

To talk about a contempt citation for Rove is laughable when there are no courageous legislators willing to stand up and be counted on to confront this criminality. It's business as usual for Congress and the Democrats are as guilty as the Republicans. If it takes a petition to get the Congress to do its job then we as a country are in dangerous waters. Rove should have been cited for contempt the minute he refused to appear. Gutless wonders.

"No veto proof majority" in the Senate is the excuse given for lack of principled behavior. Let the public judge the Congress by its action or lack of. At least stand up and be counted for what they were sent there to do, end the war and hold the President accountable. If legislation is stalled your organization can make the public aware of the obstructionists behavior and use it to get rid of them in the next election. This is why the approval ratings for Congress is lower than that of our esteemed President.

Maybe your organization should start to show the other side of this issue to the American public. Let Congress know we are watching. Congress is no better than the White House based on its inaction and should be held accountable. But then again everyone has their agenda. Too bad both party's are guilty of lobbyist involvement.

Carl Rove, just like Bush and Cheney, need to go to jail to prove to the “Culture of Corruption” and all that follow that path in the future. But Bush will just pardon him anyway. We are better served by putting this off until Bush is out of office and can not pardon any one especially himself and Cheney.

"Obama is gonna raise taxes on the rich
RICH PEOPLE OWN BUSINESSES !!!!
HAS A HOMELESS PERSON EVER GIVEN YOU A JOB??? "

Wow, that's the biggest logical fallacy that I've seen in a while.

Thomas O'Keefe is unbelievably stupid.

Lots of not rich people try to own businesses. They FAIL in this climate. And you will see a lot more homeless, unemployed people in this climate because we pissed away our treasury in Iraq and the Chinese are sucking away our money and poisoning us.

Wake up REDNECK, BELGIANS now own Budwiser. Arabs now own the Chrysler Building.

Your Intelligent Designer might have a point. Americans are too stupid so he might as well give the planet to someone else.

Obama is gonna raise taxes on the rich
RICH PEOPLE OWN BUSINESSES !!!!
HAS A HOMELESS PERSON EVER GIVEN YOU A JOB???

Karl Rove is a scapegoat. The likes of Cheney and Bush broke the law. Outing of a CIA agent is treason. If it ain't Rove that did it, Cheney did.

Why will nobody show a back bone and impeach these people. They shouldn't hide behind executive privilege when they break constitutional law.

I won't be satisfied with Rove. Cheney has committed treason and our president/emporer shields him.

You knee-jerk conservatives see rove's manufactured "truths" (his being spied upon in Tx, his dealings with voter registration investigations at DOJ, deceit in Plame outting) as somehow getting the "bad" liberals -- However, You miss the tanking of the economy, the Iraq disaster, gasoline at 4X the price when Clinton left office as all directly related to rove's superior off-jerking the administration.
It boggles the mind how you can lick the boots which are stepping on you.

"Tax and spend liberals" Hmm. Isn't that cheaper than BORROW and spend conservatives.

I think we need to hold off a bit on sending Karl to jail. If we do it too soon the current pres. will have a chance to pardon him. Is that what we want?

Give Rove a break. He was respondible, in large part, for Bush beating Kerry. Can you imagine what a disaster of a President Kerry would have been?

xXAssassinXx commented about 1 month ago:

Ya know, usually when someone asks you if you did something wrong, and you respond with a topic-dodging answer, then they point out that you didn't actually deny the charge, USUALLY an INNOCENT person would make it clear that they ARE denying the allegation. Rove had the opportunity to do just that, but for some reason, he wasn't interested in clearing his name, at least as far as public perception goes.

I really don't see why he responded the way he did. As dishonest as he's been in the past, why can't he just lie again? Actually doing what he's accused of makes him a weasel, but to not be able to answer direct questions that can either confirm the perception of his guilt or innocence makes him lose a lot of credibility even amongst conservatives who've had his back and want to believe that he did nothing wrong.

First of all, you can't spend money you don't have. The U.S. dollar is falling, and while I don't think people should freak out over it, you can't say the economy is in great shape. Another thing people need to understand is that none of these dipshit "public servants" have your best interests at heart, and neither do corporations, companies, or businesses. Has a homeless person ever laid you off?

Second of all, since you so accurately pointed out that Republican's have run the U.S. for the past 20 some odd years why don't you go shoot the senior editor of the Atlantic for saying that most conservatives just don't think deeply enough to realize that most of the bills they pass simply wont work, and that they can't operate their form of government in a system built by liberals? Do you want some sympathy, or welfare for being incompetent? I'm sorry but we can't make brain stamps unless you approve stem cell research.

This isn't about hippies, and I can't wait until everyone from that generation, hippie or not, shuffles off this dirt ball. The hippies did lose, and for their lack of foresight and excess they should have. This is about something you Neo-Cons seem to be pretty forthright about....authority, responsibility, law, the very building blocks of any sort of real, organized, sovereign, civilized nation. This isn't about your favorite college sports team, or your overgrown mutated nerd dungeon master. This isn't about partisanship, or shouldn't be. It's about a monkey in a suit thinking he's better than everyone else in this country, and wiping his ass with a congressional subpoena. It's about an advisor thinking he has the right to claim executive privilege, and if that isn't indicative of good ole boy elitist mentality in our government today, I don't know what is.

It doesn't matter that he's a conservative. What matters is that if we let this kind of behavior stand, who will do it next? How bad will it get? The American people have already lost any and all power over what goes on with our country, but you little boot licking, spine-less, ignorant, xenophobic, fanatic, wastes of flesh can't see it. You're so happy that you have a puppet chimpanzee in office manipulated by a think-tank plan to try and bring about, or create the appearance of the apocalypse that you would give up every single thing that makes America what it used to be.

How does Terry Schiavo fit into your idea of limited government? How does the Patriot Act fit into it? There are some things that the federal government is good for, and some things it's not, but Bush is happy to spend on museums for pig shit. You can't talk about that though can you? You can't actually use a free, and unlimited source of knowledge and communication to discuss real issues? You know why? Because every single fucking thing you are is sold to you, hyped up, terrorized, spun, and you're so fucking scared it leaves you with the two choices this country wants you to choose from, and so fucking scared all you can do is blindly attack and defend these pieces of shit we call politicians, while you'd never actually say half of this shit to your neighbor, or your co-workers, or anyone your pathetic ass would have to come face to face with. Go ahead and order Rush Limbaugh's "How To Debate With Liberals" or whatever it's called because you can't have a simple fucking conversation without using Nazi tactics, and straw man questions.

"So, when did you stop beating your wife?"

Fuck you and everything you ever stood for if this asshole walks. Fuck all of you hippies, fuck all of you punk rocker, heavy metal, fully armored pussies, fuck all of you little pathetic nerds working at fast food jobs that play first person shooters and think that War is a good thing no matter what the premise is. Fuck you little fucking Emo kids, all you're trying to do is get laid. Fuck you, fuck the Clintons, fuck our retard president, fuck Anne Coulter's wanna be whore ass that sells sex to all you fucking idiot losers. Fuck Ayn Rand and her poor little friendless immigrant ass. Fuck Karl Marx and his idealism. Fuck you stupid fucking anarchists that can barely make it outside into the real world. Fuck you fat asses that work at Wal Mart and act like it's not your job to actually do something. You should be beaten to death with a turkey leg. Fuck every single redneck shit kicker that ever lived. Fuck all you idiots that think that human beings have no effect on the environment. Fuck Jesus, God, Krishna, Buddha, Ganesh, good ole Allah and his silly fucking virgins, Muhamad, Pan, Isis, Ishtar, and everyone else unless you wake the fuck up and realize that you either created them, or are a part of them just like every other person on this planet that we are so fortunate to have dominion over. The Genie is out of the bottle assholes. You're part of the entire fucking Earth, and the motherfucker isn't flat. How's that for responsibility, family values, higher thinking, and some sort of reason for a little bit of God damned morality you sniveling hypocrites.

DEMONS OUT!.......HEAL!!! (And remember, you're not a true white man less you vote for Jesus.) Fuck you.

Haven't you people got enough problems without spending time and money to "punish" someone for what he believes is the right thing to do. Wahtever happened to freedom and generosity?
What ever happened to trying to do something about the oil crisis and employment by drilling our ouwn resourses. Ye who are without sin cast the first stone.

Rove has caused this country so much hardship and calamity, I don't know what punishment best befits his crimes for they are too great to measure. Part of me says jail, but I do not believe that is good enough. I would say exile, but he is still a citizen. I say we work his name into political language much like 'swift boating,' as to bring attention to this kind of crap.
